When the first "Walser" settlers arrived in the Arlberg region during the 13th and 14th centuries, they probably never imagined that this beautiful yet rugged mountain area would one day become the top ski destination Lech. However, the invention of skiing and the fact that Lech was among the first places visited for skiing tourism led to an extraordinary transformation of the village over the years. From 1885 onwards, tourism flourished, and Lech subsequently developed into one of Austria's most popular (ski) holiday resorts. The Gothic parish church of St. Nicholas still bears witness to this early period.
